Ok so we are a bit delayed in our posting of this, and apologies all around. Clinic are a wonderfully talented group of artists, and they have been touring in support of most recent release Do it! The show in Brooklyn was complete with Hawaiian shirts and surgical masks, not to mention many of their hits, and naturally, the superbly haunting yet utterly attractive vocals of Ade Blackburn. The band is currently on tour here in the states, and we are tickled pink that they shall return to our neck of river at the end of the month (dates below)

Aussie enigma C.W. Stoneking played a lovely set a few nights back at Pete’s Candy Store. A fascinating person, Stoneking was raised amongst the aboriginals of Australia, born to American parents. His personality, not to mention his sense of style, um, his music, and his speech, is what seems to be of another era. Take the voice of Dr. John, hell even the deep southern accent, strip the full band (Stoneking normally tours with a full band, most recently with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings), and stick these songs on a phonograph, site on the porch and close your eyes…Don’t get me wrong though, the man is his own entity, sure there appear to be past musical influences, but he’s not thinking about that.
Keep an eye our for some west coast dates, after that, this lad may not be back until later this summer. Until then, spring is here!!

There is not much that can really be stated here, as an introduction. Reggie Watts is the sunshine to life, a marvelous human being and an amazingly talented artist. Keep an eye out for Reggie making festival appearances this summer, along with his site for future dates and info. Thank you Reggie, no really, thank you…
Grab your mason jar of change and go out and support your local record shop, for tomorrow is Record Store Day! If you’re in one of the five boroughs like we are, there are some pretty amazing options. Our favorites are Other Music, who will have a plethora of celebrity DJs, members of Deerhunter, Interpol and Tapes n’ Tapes, to say the lease. Williamsburg’s Soundfix, has Regina Spektor performing…for a complete list to find out what your local record store has going on, bounce on over to the official site. I’m shouting out my hometown record store, the Princeton Record Exchange, who saved my life in that university town. Happy shopping!
PS - The real question is, where is Ms Peachez going to DJ tomorrow?
When asked the question, “how would you describe this band,” most times the answer contains about 35 million words…indie rock with pop elements and punk influence with some folk thrown into it, blah blah, it can become a dizzy conversation. When it comes to Toronto’s Constatines, the answer, in my opinion is, quite simpl…Romantic. You do, what you can you, with what you got…head vocalist Bry Webb sings in the most rugged of tones. This band does what they do, make music that is, seem effortless, and it was wonderful to finally be able to experience it live. Constantines’ music can be described as the soundtrack, to life. Sure it sounds dramatic, but it’s completely true. Maybe it’s the first generation in me, coming from an immigrant family, but weather you’re sitting in your backyard with a garden and chickens at your family house, (ahem), or standing on the subway between some rank smelling people, the music is perfect for any state of mind. Thank you Constantines. In case you missed them last night, the band will be back in NYC on Saturday, tour dates here.(Kensington Heights is out in Canada, April 29th in the US via Arts & Crafts)
PitchforkMedia.com launched it’s .tv sister video site this week. Will it be the first .tv site actually worth watching?
So far, from the little I spent peaking around the site, it seems promising. I’m sure they will be adding a lot more video content - and it looks the focus will be on new and live. I don’t know if I’ll ever watch a full concert, but it’s still pretty cool nonetheless.
I did visit the ‘for one week only’ section, starting out featuring a 2004 documentary on the Pixies reunion, called loud QUIET loud. I never knew this documentary existed, but I’m not a *huge* Pixies fan. Curious, I got totally sucked in. What I can tell you is - if I were a big fan, I’d be pissed, I think, because Charles aka Frank Black aka Black Francis, whatever his name is came off quite well, while Kim Deal came off as a total spoiled brat. I’d heard stories, but the whole band was awkward and downright sad to watch. I don’t think I’ll ever listen to their music the same way again. It’s like when I stumbled upon a Metallica documentary - where they hired a band therapist. Yikes!
There are some things you just don’t need to see.But I’m not going to blame Pitchfork.tv, I’m going to blame file-sharing for ruining someone else’s (I’m not a huge Metallica fan either) heroes. The Pixies basically say they did the reunion for money because their checks were slowing down, and Metallica, well, we all know the Internet screwed them over the most.
I have to say it, and I don’t do it often actually, but boy do I love Yeasayer. Saw them for the first time over the summer at a “secret” show in the Lower East Side with MGMT and Suckers, but I didn’t become emotionally attached until I saw them again during CMJ at the Fader party. Just when you think it can’t get any better, Yeasayer and Man Man start their tour tonight, at the appropriate Masonic Temple of Brooklyn tonight, sadly I will miss this one. Talk about a powerhouse…Enjoy the lovely videos courtesy of La Blogotheque, and enjoy the weekend!
